High School Litter Free Events
Keep Tennessee Beautiful (KTnB) is working to educate high school students, coaches, officials, and principals on the importance of recycling and litter reduction.
The 2006 R.W. Beck Tennessee Visible Litter Survey showed that the largest group of people littering in Tennessee is males between 16 and 34 years of age. The survey also showed that deliberate littering is most done by people ranging from ages 11 to 24. In working with local high schools, KTnB is hoping to reach out to these groups and educate students on the effects of littering and benefits of recycling.
KTnB encourages all high school sporting events to be promoted as "Litter Free Events". We support having properly placed trash and recycling receptacles at each event, volunteers in place to pass trash bags through the stadium seating between quarters or innings, and encouraging all athletes and attendees to “do the right thing” via PA announcement.
KTnB will provide a “Litter Free Event” banner and a box of trash bags to all high schools that register. The Litter Free Event registration form can be filled out below. Information on how to host a Litter Free Event, can be downloaded from our Education Resources section.
